29 characters — within the recommended 75-character limit.

What makes a good slug?
  • Keep it short and descriptive: under 75 characters, ideally 3–5 words.
  • Use hyphens between words — search engines treat them as word separators.
  • Lowercase only; avoid accents, symbols, and emoji (this tool transliterates them for you).
  • Include the words people search for; drop stop words like "the" and "and" when the slug gets long.
  • Never change a published slug without a redirect — links and rankings point at the old URL.

How to use it

  1. Enter a title or short phrase.
  2. Read the live lowercase, hyphen-separated output.
  3. Review the result before assigning a published URL; the tool does not check uniqueness or redirects.
What is Slug Generator?

Create clean, URL-friendly slugs from titles and text for blogs, pages, and content management workflows.

How it works

SiteIndex lowercases your text, replaces spaces and special characters with hyphens, and trims extra hyphens to produce a clean, URL-friendly slug with a live URL preview.

Common uses
  • Generate a clean URL slug from a blog post or page title.
  • Check how a title will look as part of a URL before publishing.
  • Standardize slugs across a content management workflow.
Limitations
  • Accented letters and supported non-Latin scripts are transliterated into ASCII. Characters without a supported transliteration may be removed; review the resulting slug.
Frequently asked questions
Does this remove special characters?
Yes. Anything that is not a letter or number is converted to a hyphen, and duplicate or leading/trailing hyphens are trimmed.
