HTTP status codes
Every response from a web server includes a three-digit status code. The first digit tells you the class: 1xx informational, 2xx success, 3xx redirection, 4xx client error, and 5xx server error. Pick a code for its meaning, common causes, and fixes.

The request was received and the server is continuing to process it.
- 100 ContinueThe server received the request headers and the client should send the request body.
- 101 Switching ProtocolsThe server agrees to switch to the protocol requested in the Upgrade header, most often WebSocket.
- 103 Early HintsAn interim response that lets the browser start preloading resources before the final response is ready.
2xx Success
The request was received, understood, and accepted.
- 200 OKThe request succeeded and the response contains the requested content.
- 201 CreatedThe request succeeded and a new resource was created.
- 202 AcceptedThe request was accepted for processing, but processing has not finished.
- 204 No ContentThe request succeeded and there is no response body.
- 206 Partial ContentThe server is returning only the byte range the client requested.
3xx Redirection
The client must take additional action, usually following a redirect, to complete the request.
- 301 Moved PermanentlyThe resource has permanently moved to the URL in the Location header.
- 302 FoundThe resource is temporarily available at a different URL.
- 303 See OtherThe server redirects the client to a different URL, which must be fetched with GET.
- 304 Not ModifiedThe cached copy is still valid, so the server sends no body.
- 307 Temporary RedirectThe resource is temporarily at another URL, and the client must repeat the request with the same method and body.
- 308 Permanent RedirectThe resource has permanently moved, and the client must keep the same method and body.
4xx Client Error
The request contains an error or cannot be fulfilled as sent.
- 400 Bad RequestThe server cannot process the request because it is malformed.
- 401 UnauthorizedThe request needs valid authentication credentials.
- 403 ForbiddenThe server understood the request but refuses to allow it.
- 404 Not FoundThe server cannot find the requested resource.
- 405 Method Not AllowedThe URL exists but does not support the HTTP method used.
- 406 Not AcceptableThe server cannot produce a response matching the client's Accept headers.
- 408 Request TimeoutThe server gave up waiting for the client to finish sending the request.
- 409 ConflictThe request conflicts with the current state of the resource.
- 410 GoneThe resource was intentionally and permanently removed.
- 413 Content Too LargeThe request body is larger than the server allows.
- 414 URI Too LongThe URL is longer than the server will process.
- 415 Unsupported Media TypeThe server does not support the request body's format.
- 418 I'm a teapotAn April Fools' joke status: the server refuses to brew coffee because it is a teapot.
- 422 Unprocessable ContentThe request is well-formed but contains invalid data.
- 425 Too EarlyThe server will not process a request that might be replayed.
- 429 Too Many RequestsThe client sent too many requests in a given time and is being rate limited.
- 431 Request Header Fields Too LargeThe request headers are too large for the server.
- 451 Unavailable For Legal ReasonsThe resource is unavailable because of a legal demand.
5xx Server Error
The server failed to fulfil a valid request.
- 500 Internal Server ErrorThe server hit an unexpected error and could not complete the request.
- 501 Not ImplementedThe server does not support the functionality needed to fulfil the request.
- 502 Bad GatewayA gateway or proxy received an invalid response from the upstream server.
- 503 Service UnavailableThe server is temporarily unable to handle the request.
- 504 Gateway TimeoutA gateway or proxy did not get a response from the upstream server in time.
- 505 HTTP Version Not SupportedThe server does not support the HTTP version used in the request.
- 508 Loop DetectedThe server detected an infinite loop while processing the request.
- 511 Network Authentication RequiredThe client must authenticate to gain network access.
