Measure browser download speed, upload speed, and latency using a lightweight local test.

What does it do?

Measure browser download speed, upload speed, and latency using a lightweight local test.

How does it work?

The browser downloads and uploads test data to SiteIndex's speed-test endpoint and measures throughput in megabits per second. Latency is measured separately; results reflect this device, browser, connection, and route to the test server.

When to use it
  • Check whether your current connection is suitable for a large upload or video call.
  • Compare Wi-Fi and wired results from the same device.
  • Record a baseline before contacting your internet provider.
Inputs and outputs
Input
A public website, domain, or network value required by the check.
Output
A result shown in the browser that can be reviewed or copied where supported.
Limitations
  • Results depend on the input, browser, network, and external service involved.
  • This tool is informational and does not replace specialist diagnostics.
Privacy and data handling

The requested public target is sent to SiteIndex only as needed to perform the check. SiteIndex does not require an account or intentionally store the target as a report. See the Privacy Policy for analytics and retention details. Read the Privacy Policy.

Results and sharing

Review download, upload, latency, and the measurement time. Copy or download TXT/CSV, or preview the social summary before sharing. It excludes IP and device identifiers and is not a certified speed.

Use Share result to preview and copy a link. Anyone with the link can read the included details; nothing is saved on our server. Shared result links open read-only snapshots. Large results require a downloaded file instead.

How to use it

  1. Pause large downloads and connect to the network you want to measure.
  2. Start the test and let the latency, download, and upload phases finish.
  3. Review download, upload, latency, jitter, and the UTC measurement time.
  4. Copy or download TXT/CSV, or open Share result to preview a social summary without IP or device identifiers.
