HTTP Status Checker Documentation

Use the free HTTP Status Checker →

Check the HTTP response for a URL and review the status, server, and redirect chain.

What does it do?

Check the HTTP response for a URL and review the status, server, and redirect chain.

How does it work?

SiteIndex requests the URL, follows any redirects, and reports the full redirect chain, final status code, and categorized response headers. The Advanced panel runs repeat timing samples and shows the raw header set.

When to use it
  • Confirm a URL returns the expected status code after a deploy or migration.
  • Trace a redirect chain to check for redirect loops or unexpected hops.
  • Review caching and security headers returned by a page.
Inputs and outputs
Input
A public website, domain, or network value required by the check.
Output
A result shown in the browser that can be reviewed or copied where supported.
Limitations
  • Results depend on the input, browser, network, and external service involved.
  • This tool is informational and does not replace specialist diagnostics.
Privacy and data handling

The requested public target is sent to SiteIndex only as needed to perform the check. SiteIndex does not require an account or intentionally store the target as a report. See the Privacy Policy for analytics and retention details. Read the Privacy Policy.

How to use it

  1. Enter the complete public URL, including https:// when appropriate.
  2. Run the check and read the final HTTP status code.
  3. Review each redirect hop and the response headers if the destination is unexpected.
  4. Use the result to update redirects or links, then recheck the final URL.
