JSON to YAML Documentation

Use the free JSON to YAML →

Transform JSON into YAML for configuration files, deployments, and readable structured data.

What does it do?

Transform JSON into YAML for configuration files, deployments, and readable structured data.

How does it work?

The browser validates JSON, then a YAML 1.2 serializer emits two-space indentation for nested objects and sequences. Strings are quoted where required to preserve their types. Syntax errors include parser location details; edits and failures clear obsolete output.

When to use it
  • Convert a JSON development configuration to YAML.
  • Represent arrays of objects as properly indented YAML sequences.
Inputs and outputs
Input
Text, files, or values entered in the browser, depending on the tool.
Output
A result shown in the browser that can be reviewed or copied where supported.
Limitations
  • JSON is parsed using JavaScript numeric precision; quote large integer identifiers before conversion.
  • JSON comments, trailing commas, and undefined values are not accepted.
Privacy and data handling

How to use it

  1. Paste valid JSON with double-quoted keys and strings.
  2. Select Convert JSON to YAML.
  3. Inspect nested indentation and copy the YAML.
