URL Encoder / Decoder

How to use it

  1. Choose Encode for raw component text or Decode for percent-encoded text.
  2. Paste one query value or path component, not a complete URL whose separators you want to preserve.
  3. Select Convert, review errors if present, and copy the output.
What is URL Encoder?

Encode or decode URL strings and query parameter content securely in-browser.

How it works

Uses JavaScript encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent locally for a single URL component. Invalid percent escapes or invalid decoded UTF-8 produce an error and no copyable output.

Example input and expected output

Input

a & b

Expected output

a%20%26%20b
Common uses
  • Encode a search term containing spaces or ampersands before adding it as a query value.
  • Inspect a percent-encoded path segment from a log without visiting the destination.
Limitations
  • This encodes URL components, including URL separators such as /, :, and ?. It does not validate a full URL or make an unsafe URL safe.
  • A plus sign stays a plus sign when decoding; form-encoded + for space is not interpreted.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the slashes in my URL encoded?
This tool encodes a component. Use it for one path segment or query value; it intentionally encodes full-URL separators.
Why does a lone percent sign fail to decode?
Percent escapes need two hexadecimal digits and must form valid encoded UTF-8. A percent sign by itself is malformed.
Does + decode to a space?
No. decodeURIComponent keeps a literal plus sign. Form-encoded data uses a different plus-for-space convention.
Does conversion visit the address?
No. It transforms text locally and does not fetch the supplied URL.
