What does it do?

Count characters, words, lines, sentences, and estimated reading time for any text block.

How does it work?

Words and UTF-16 character totals update above the editor. Secondary metrics include lines, non-whitespace characters, sentence estimates, and reading time at 200 words per minute. Empty input has zero reading time. Copy or TXT download includes statistics only, not the source text.

When to use it
  • Check a draft against a word or character limit.
  • Estimate reading time for a short article or script.
  • Count lines or sentences in text before editing or publishing.

Limitations
  • Character count is JavaScript string length, not user-perceived graphemes; emoji can count as multiple units.
  • Sentence and word segmentation is heuristic, not a language-aware tokenizer or an exact reading-time prediction.
Privacy and data handling

Inputs for this browser-side tool are processed locally and are not sent to SiteIndex. Normal page analytics may still be collected as described in the Privacy Policy. Read the Privacy Policy.

Results and sharing

Words and characters update above the editor. Copy or download statistics without the original text. Words use whitespace, characters use UTF-16 units, and reading time assumes 200 words per minute.

Use Share result to preview and copy a link. Anyone with the link can read the included details; nothing is saved on our server. Shared result links open read-only snapshots. Large results require a downloaded file instead.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type the text you want to measure.
  2. Read the prominent word and character counts and the secondary metrics.
  3. Use reading time as a rough estimate, not an exact language-aware measurement.
  4. Copy or download statistics without the source text; edit or clear to measure another draft.
